Injury set back for Africa's Queen of the tracks
IAAF World Championships:  Hamstring injury denies Okagbare 200m chance

Details have now emerged on why Africa’s Queen of the tracks, Blessing Okagbare was conspicuously missing in the Heats for the 200m Women’s  event held earlier today at the ongoing World Championships in Beijing, China.

A statement from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria made available to Garber Sports offered some explanation on why Okagbare who is largely seen as Nigeria’s brightest medal prospect in Beijing missed out in the Heats for the 200m.

“She (Okagbare) had a hamstring injury during warm-up” the statement from the AFN stated

It continued: “Blessing was focused on doing well in the 200m, her warm up was okay but she developed an hamstring injury”

“Nevertheless, she is expected to make a recovery in time to compete for Team Nigeria in the women’s 4x100m relay”.

Hopes were before now high that Okagbare will bounce back strongly in the 200m event having failed to meet mounting expectations in the 100m.

But with the setback caused by the hamstring injury, Okagbare is now in a race against time to make up for the latest loss with a better show in 4x100m event which starts on Saturday.
