Boca Juniors forward Carlos Tevez was called up on Wednesday by coach Gerardo Martino for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay but Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain was snubbed.
The 27-year-old included by the ex-Barcelona boss despite his good club form.
You will recall that former Real Madrid star two goals in Monday’s 5-0 thrashing of Lazio in Serie A, taking his tally to four goals from as many appearances so far this season.
Higuain missed Argentina’s friendlies against Bolovia and Mexico earlier this month due to a stomach bug but has since been playing regularly for Napoli.
PSG duo of Angel di Maria and Javier Pastore were other star players to not play in the friendly games in the United States but have been called up by the La Albiceleste’s gaffer for the Russia 2018 qualifiers.
Martino also named Santos Laguna keeper Agustin Marchesin and Everton defender Ramires Funi Mori in the squad.
Argentina will face Ecuador on 8th October in front of their home fans and meets Paraguay five days later.
