Brett’s Bets Of The Week

We are in for a spectacular weekend with the 2nd week’s fixtures of the Six Nations Championship combined with a football frenzy; culminating on Super Sunday when the top 4 Premiership sides go head to head.

Six Nations Rugby

Thrice will be nice!

An interesting opening week in rugby with no major shocks, apart from the ones to my wallet! The Wales vs Ireland game provided such great entertainment that nobody deserved to lose.

I can see two relatively straightforward results this week (didn’t I say that last week!), making me a (potentially) happy punter. The Triple Crown chance has gone for Ireland, Wales and Scotland with only England left in the running.

In ode to the triple whammy I’d say a little accumulator is in order. Fingers crossed there’s no dropped goals ergo dropped points this week.

*** England, Wales & Ireland to win (Treble) – 6/4 – Bet365

Everton – West Brom

On the back of watching a paint dry game against Peterborough, Tony Pulis and his band of manly men will be looking to wake up some of their supporters with a performance, or even a decent goal, against the Toffees. Goodison Park of recent times resembles a fortress built upon the sand. Their defending at set pieces, while not quite matching their Merseyside contemporaries is nothing short of horrific. Martinez is a firm believer in the UFC approach, attack is the best form of defense.

While Everton’s defence is leaky, West Brom’s direct approach is far from sneaky. Expect them to nick a goal against the cavalier type approach of Everton.

***Both teams to score – 21/20 – Bet Victor

Aston Villa V Liverpool

Will Benteke blunt his way to another blank this week on his return to his old stomping, albeit ironically, scoring ground? Seemingly not Klopp’s cup of tea he will have to score himself into the brewing mind of the affable German. Lest this be his first and last season with the Reds. Liverpool have lacked the cutting edge of late with only Firmino and possibly Sturridge, depending on his fitness – the only ones likely to slice open the Villa defense.

Villa have being playing reasonably well of late and by that I mean not getting tanked by all and sundry. Liverpool are due a revival at some point and with the ticket price protest bearing fruit, expect the fans to help hammer home an unconvincing win against Villa.

***Liverpool away win – 10/11 – Paddy Power

Arsenal – Leicester City  (BET OF THE WEEK)

Top of the table clash with these heavyweights slugging it out. Leicester have come on in leaps and bounds from their early season expectations. From pre conceived featherweights to bona fide title contenders, Leicester are now at longer odds to win this one (4/1) than they are to win the league outright (2/1).

Who’d have thunk it!

Arsenal won’t get beaten up at the Emirates like Man City did last week at the Etihad, but the Foxes are more than capable of bloodying their nose this time around (Gunners won 5-2 earlier in the year at the King Power Stadium). Arsene infamously, some would say indefensibly, never adjusts his tactics to suit the opposition. He won’t shut up shop and Leicester will come away with some of but not all the spoils.

***Leicester to win (+1 handicap) – 23/20 – SportingBet
