The African Handball Cup of Nations is the official Handball Championship in Africa, held every two years and it qualifies teams for the 2016 Olympic Games and 2017 World Men’s Championship.
The tournament will be held from 20 – 31 January in Cairo, with the champion qualifying to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (5 – 21 August, 2016)
Top three teams will qualify for the next year’s World Cup in France (11 – 29 January, 2017).
Tunisia holds the most titles in the competition with nine, with Algeria and Egypt coming in next with seven and five titles respectively.
Here is a look at the two groups:
Group A (Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Gabon, Nigeria, Cameroon)
Group B (Tunisia, Libya, Congo, DR Congo, Angola, Kenya)
This is the first time that Egypt will host an international tournament in a team sport since the revolution of January 25, so there is a clear intention from the Egyptian government to come out looking good in front of the world.
