Former Cameroon captain Samuel Eto’o Fils has been appointed interim player-manager at Turkish club Antalyaspor.
The former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea striker joined the club on a three-year contract as a player in June and has been given three matches to impress the management as coach of the Süper Lig side.
Eto’o is to be assisted by Mehmet Ugurlu. The 34-year-old takes over from Yusuf Simsek, who was sacked on December 7.
Antalyaspor currently sit 9th in the Süper Lig table after 15 matches, having won 5, drawn 5 and lost 5 matches. The club will decide about whether to give Eto’o a permanent position as coach at the end of the season.
His first match in charge will be away at Transzonspor this Saturday.
Eto’o has scored 13 goals in 15 league appearances for the Scorpions this season.
