Jose Mourinho expects to continue his second run as Chelsea manager despite suffering a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, which was their sixth loss in eleven games this season.
Bookmakers around the world have already slashed the odds on Mourinho leaving Chelsea this season to 4/7 after the loss. However, when asked whether he would be told to leave soon, the Special One replied, ‘No’.
Mourinho also refused to share his thoughts about the game in the post-match media conference and was at his witty best, promising journalists he would bring them glasses next time in order for them to see things better.
“I’d like to listen more than being questioned,” said Mourinho. “I go home, I go find a sad family. I will try to watch some of the rugby (World Cup final) and disconnect a little bit from this. Then I will start preparing the training session for tomorrow morning and the game for Wednesday.”
“Next press conference I will bring you nice glasses, maybe you see the game in a better way,” he quipped in the end.
Under investigation by the FA for his criticism of referees, Mourinho was once again seen fuming at a decision in the second half that saw Liverpool’s Lucas pardoned when the score was tied at 1-1. The Portuguese manager had his eyes lit up hoping Lucas would be shown a second yellow card for his rough tackle.
Later, two further strikes, including a second goal from Philippe Coutinho and one from Christian Benteke ensured another hard day in the office for Mourinho, who has already undergone a managerial vote of confidence earlier on October 5 at the Chelsea board.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was not present to witness the game against Liverpool, which saw a lot of supportive chants for the Blues throughout the match from faithful fans.
While Mourinho has already said he cannot promise the club qualifying for Champions League football next season, some people are even talking relegation.
The Blues currently sit at 15th spot in the bottom half of the league; having won three, drawn two and lost six of their games this season.
Will Mourinho be asked to leave Chelsea this week? If yes, who will replace him at Stamford Bridge? The debate and anticipation has already reached the boiling point.
