The 24-year-old whose £29 million move to Real Madrid collapsed during the transfers deadline day because his paper works were reportedly submitted to the Spanish giants minutes after the window has closed would have left United on a free transfer at the end of the current season had he not penned a new contract with the club.
De Gea took to his official twitter account to express that he is proud to continue at the club:

Manchester United gaffer, Louis van Gaal had kind words towards the goalkeeper in his statement on the clubs official website, he said:
“I am absolutely delighted David has signed a new contract. He is one of the best goalkeepers in world football. I am very pleased that he will be part of the team for many years to come.
“David made a very important contribution to our performance last season and he has been the club’s Player of the Year for the last two seasons. He is a popular player who is keen to learn and enhance his game. At such a young age for a goalkeeper, he has many years ahead of him.”
United acquired the services of Argentine Sergio Romero in the summer as a possible replacement for De Gea had he made the move to Real, but with the Spanish back in van Gaal’s “philosophy” Romero may just be relegated to the bench.
The former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper joined the Red Devils on 29 June, 2011 for a British record fee for a goalkeeper of around £17.8 million as replacement for Edwin Van der Sar and has since made 175 appearances for the Premier League giants..
