Spain manager Vicente del Bosque has admitted that he will find it difficult to place Manchester United keeper, David De Gea in his squad for the European Championship if he continues to be on the sidelines.

Deal falls through

The Spaniard has yet to make an appearance for the Premier League club this season with coach Louis Van Gaal insisting that the 24-year-old’s head was not in the right place to start for the Red Devils after this summer’s transfer fiasco.

De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants, Real Madrid throughout the summer and it looked like the deal would finally go through on Monday.

However, at the last hurdle, the deal fell through after miscommunication between the two clubs which means that he will remain in Manchester until at least January.

Del Bosque’s stern warning

De Gea met up with the international squad ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Macedonia, but could struggle to reach the tournament in France next summer if his hiatus from Van Gaal’s side continues.

When asked about De Gea’s situation, Del Bosque told Marca that he felt that he didn’t need to talks to him about it, however if he does need to talk about him about it, he would “say something”.

He added that De Gea needs to be more “professional” and “move on” from the transfer episode. Del Bosque is hoping that he will start to “play again”.

He laid down the ultimatum saying that if he does play then he will take him to the championships, however if he doesn’t it could prove to be “very difficult” for him to gain selection.

Valdes’ shock return

The 64-year-old also admitted that Victor Valdes who has been frozen out of the United squad could still gain selection for the international squad.

Despite not featuring for the side this season like De Gea, Del Bosque said that he was “very close” to calling Valdes back into the system as he has always “done well” for the national team.
