UFC 193 lost its main event when Robbie Lawler, who was set to face Carlos Condit, suffered a thumb injury in training. As a result of that the powers to be immediately pushed Ronda Rousey’s title defense against Holly Holm from January 2, 2016 up to the November 15, 2015 event. Rousey is a rare commodity in mixed martial arts – a crossover star who fights three times per year. The fact that her bouts rarely make it past the one minute mark definitely helps her fight as often as she does.
Even though the fight is still over two months away, this presents another disadvantage for Holm, who’s already considered a big underdog. She’s still young in this sport and getting used to fighting in the UFC. She also fights out of the Jackson-Winklejohn camp, which is known for its game planning. More time to train could have helped Holm get comfortable and develop her strategy for taking on Rousey.
The event will take place in Melbourne, Australia, as the UFC seeks to build its international audience with a major stadium show and Rousey should certainly sell plenty of tickets on her name recognition alone. Just like Rousey Holm hasn’t lost a match in her career, although to be fair she has never fought anyone with the skill set or pedigree of Ronda Rousey.
